Kreider Scores Twice, Zibanejad Adds Two for Rangers
Canes' Special Teams Struggle Again in 4-3 Loss
For the second consecutive game, the New York Rangers defeated the Carolina Hurricanes, this time by a score of 4-3. Chris Kreider and Mika Zibanejad each scored twice for the Rangers, who have now won three straight games.
The Hurricanes came out strong in the first period, outshooting the Rangers 17-8. However, they were unable to convert on their only power play of the period. The Rangers, on the other hand, capitalized on their first power play opportunity, with Kreider scoring his first goal of the night.
The Rangers continued to control the game in the second period, outshooting the Hurricanes 12-7. Kreider scored his second goal of the game on another power play, and Zibanejad added a goal of his own to give the Rangers a 3-1 lead.
The Hurricanes finally got on the board in the third period when Andrei Svechnikov scored a power-play goal. However, Zibanejad scored his second goal of the night just over a minute later to restore the Rangers' two-goal lead.
The Hurricanes pulled goalie Frederik Andersen with just over two minutes remaining in the game, but they were unable to score the tying goal. The Rangers held on for the 4-3 win.
The Hurricanes' special teams continue to be a major problem. They went 0-for-4 on the power play in this game and have now gone 0-for-11 in the last two games.
The Rangers, meanwhile, have been clicking on the power play, going 3-for-6 in the last two games. They will look to continue their winning ways when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday night.
